Eleven periods of history
Nafplio was Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman before it became the first capital of modern Greece. The map shows the town in eleven periods: Antiquity, Byzantine, Frankish (1212–1389), First Venetian (1389–1540), First Ottoman (1540–1686), Second Venetian (1686–1715), Second Ottoman (1715–1822), Revolution and first capital (1822–1833), King Otto (1833–1862), 1862–1940 and since 1940. Each period has a short text about the town at the time and the places that belong to it.
Tours, quiz and night view
Three guided tours (Highlights, The fortresses, Through history) take you from place to place. A history quiz tests what you know at three levels. Change the time of day to see the town at sunset and at night, when the lights come on in the streets, on the steps to Palamidi and on the boats in the harbour.
